The Ask (week2 of 2020)

This week I had my first 1-to-1 mentor session with a fantastic NYC connector: Marcos Dinnerstein! He had so many ideas of ways to add value to Seamless Integrated Dynamics we were both inspired to take notes! A few fantastic potential partnerships and lots of his time.

Second iteration of the Mentor process was in a group discussion with Sebastian Ficht. The big take away from that was how he connected himself to the NYC real estate community: the long play. He went to multiple events a week and targeted cultural organizations and built his client list. Making contacts, identifying what value I could add to whatever THEY are needing, and then helping them before asking them to help me with anything. This is a wonderful path for me and my company. I like collaborating with people and love NYC so I was thrilled to hear it from a mentor.

This led me to my topic for this week’s blog: The Ask. To get the most out of my day, the more that I can identify an ask that the person offering their time or services can answer affirmatively and feel like they helped me. Hand in hand with this realization that as much as we must onboard supporters, we are going to have to build and run this company ourselves.  This is a delicate balence of optimism and pessimism in my internal struggle but we will add that to the list of things to blog about.

Lastly this week I had it pounded at me again and again that I needed to simplify my company message and how I explain it. I am really trying. When a Mentor sits across from me and explains the company mission back to me as if they had figured it out all on their own, I have to ignore the overwhelming feeling that I have explained it multiple times and that I thought it was obvious, and celebrate that one more person gets what we are doing at SInDy!  Thank G_d!!

Sincerely with peace,

Charles
